Universal Announce New CEO
Lucian Grainge has been announced as the new CEO of Universal Music Group today. He will share the role with current CEO Doug Morris for six months, and then take the position alone after that. The move comes as no surprise; he has been seen as a natural successor to Morris for some time.
He has worked as a chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group International until now. Mr Grainge has enjoyed enormous success, helping cement Universal as the largest music company in the world. His attention to the company’s artists is well known, recently he persuaded wayward artist Amy Winehouse to attend rehab for her drug addiction.
Mr Grainge has thirty years experience in the music industry where he began as a fresh faced nineteen year old. He spoke of the news today ''Stepping into Doug's shoes is an honour and a privilege," he said. "This is a great industry which I believe has as much to look forward to as to be proud of.”
Mr Grainge will relocate from his London office to the company’s New York office.
